About Us
Our Vision, Our Commitment
Our Vision
The Myanmar Institute for Education and Research (MIER) is driven by a singular vision: to serve as the cornerstone of a robust, world-connected academic ecosystem in Myanmar. We envision a future where every dedicated student and researcher has the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to contribute meaningfully to global scholarship and innovation.
Our Mission
Our mission is strategically structured around three pillars:
- To Educate: We are committed to providing exceptional, accessible training in academic writing, English proficiency, and research methodologies at the certificate and diploma levels. This foundational training equips scholars with the skills to communicate their ideas with clarity and impact.
- To Bridge: We are dedicated to cultivating a generation of skilled translators and scholars capable of bringing Myanmar’s rich literature, history, and research to a global audience. Through this work, we aim to facilitate a two-way intellectual exchange that enriches both local and international academic discourse.
- To Empower: We strive to create a free, open-access platform that democratizes quality education. This initiative specifically targets underrepresented students and early-career academics whose access to high-quality educational resources is challenged, ensuring that talent is not limited by circumstance.
Our Goals
We are committed to achieving the following milestones:
- To train at least 500 students in academic writing and research methods within the first three years of operation.
- To establish formal collaboration agreements with a minimum of five national and international academic institutions to expand our reach and impact.
- To build a free online resource library, containing over 200 high-quality publications, guides, and translated works, available to all.
- To launch a fully accredited diploma program in Research Methodology, providing a recognized and valuable qualification for Myanmar’s academic community.
Our Story - Myanmar Institute for Education and Research (MIER)
The Myanmar Institute for Education and Research (MIER) was founded by Phyo Wai, Yamin Htay, and a collective of like-minded scholars who, from their experiences in exile, recognized the systemic challenges facing students and researchers in Myanmar. We hold a core belief that access to quality methodological training and language skills should never be a barrier to participating in global academia. MIER was born from a profound commitment to dismantle these barriers, to nurture local talent, and to amplify Myanmar’s scholarly voice on the world stage.
